Top Gun incorporates the use of Orientations to introduce new teams and individuals to the game and its rules prior to the beginning of a season. Additionally, once a 5-on-5 season begins, weekly statistics are run on individual, team and league levels, which builds both enthusiasm and competition for the ball players. Game rules and league policies are reviewed at the conclusion of each season to determine where improvements can be made to both the game and the Top Gun organization.

    X FLAG FOOTBALL
    San Diego, CA
<p>X Flag Football was started in the Summer of 2007 by 5 experienced flag football players. These players have played in different adult flag leagues in Southern California for many years. After realizing that a lot of the leagues were putting profits first and not the players, XFF's founders decided to create a league "by the Players, for the Players."</p> <p> XFF allows players to register as individuals or teams. Once a team has completed their registration, team captains receive a copy of the full rules and waiver to complete. Orientation games are conducted to determine skill level and divisional placement. By the 3rd week of the season, full team schedules are generated to help players plan their activities. Each team will be guaranteed at least 10 games per season with the potential for more via playoffs and tournament play. Scores, stats, and standings are updated weekly to give players an idea of how well they are doing within their division and league. Finally, action photos are taken weekly to highlight key plays and teams.</p> <p> X Flag Football in the ONLY non-profit player managed 5 man flag football league in Southern California. Because of this, XFF truly understands the average player and what they are looking for. Our player-owners are at each location to assure that there is a safe, fun, and exciting environment for our players and their fans.</br> <p> After much player feedback, we have decided to implement a single pitch-back rule on offense AND defense. There is a college football style overtime, with each team getting 2 tries to score from the opponent's 10 yard line. Our playoff system is unique with location playoff winners moving on to the county championships. At the County Championships, a winner will be crowned and receive customized championship shirts and trophies.</p>

About Football

Football, also known as American football, is a team game that combines strategy and physical play. The object of football is to advance the ball up the field by running and passing the ball, and scoring a touchdown by crossing the ball into the end zone. Professional football, high school football, and college football are all highly popular spectator sports in the United States.

Football History

Football originated from a primitive game of rugby played in America in the 1840s. In 1880, Walter Camp, considered the "Father of American Football," exchanged the traditional rugby scrum for a line of scrimmage. In 1882, the four down system was introduced to negate Princeton and Yale's strategy to hold the ball without trying to score. The following year, Camp reduced the number of players to eleven, and introduced the seven-man offensive line, with a quarterback, two halfbacks, and a full back. The first professional game was played in 1895. The National Football League (NFL) began in the early 1920s. Today, football is one of the most popular sports in the United States.

Football Tips

Good football players are agile. Agility drills include: jumping rope, running through tires, and jumping over cones.

There are a variety of lesser contact versions of Football available. Tackle Football is the sport practiced by major professional leagues such as the NFL, but flag football and touch football are varieties that allow the player to be "tackled" by either touching with two hands or pulling a piece of ribbon or "flag" off the opposing player. This also allows for Co-ed or women's teams to engage without fear of injury.
